David: Songs of a Shepherd

Back to Message Archive

“Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence, and the Lord is with him.” -1 Samuel 16:18

God wants to mold my HEART in His IMAGE

and then apply my GIFTS in His service and for His glory.

The qualities God looks for – heart and CHARACTER – are better formed in the PASTURE than the PALACE.

David was both a MIGHTY man and a “RENAISSANCE man.”

The only shortcut to GROWTH is ADVERSITY!

An “pasture” conducive to growth:

  1. Others are AHEAD of me.

  1. I am regularly CHALLENGED.

  1. FAILURE does not end in shame.

  1. The focus is FORWARD.

  1. Others are growing WITH

  1. I am SECURE in the right things.

“Faith is a living, daring confidence in God’s grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times.” -Martin Luther
